The TNI ensures that it continues to prioritize a humanist approach in dealing with problems in Papua. There has been no instruction from the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa to change the approach to operations in the Land of Cendrawasih.
This was conveyed by the Head of Information for the XVII Cendrawasih Military Command (Kapendam) Colonel Aqsha Erlangga in response to the provocative actions that were again carried out by the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB)-Free Papua Organization (OPM). The separatist group raised the morning star flag at a number of points.
"We always urge our brothers and sisters in armed criminal groups to think clearly," Aqsa told Medcom.id, Monday, January 3, 2022.
Aqsha reminded that the actions taken by the TPNPB-OPM had made it difficult for all Papuans. Both from an economic and security point of view.
"It is definitely very difficult for the people in Papua who are affected to be able to move forward, run the wheel of life well, safely and comfortably," he explained.
He invited TPNPB-OPM together with the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua to improve the welfare of the local community. The central government also always prioritizes improving welfare and development in overcoming problems in Papua.
"But if it is always hindered, harassed, and terrorized, it will make it difficult for all parties who (want to) build Papua to move forward," he explained.
TPNPB-OPM continues to spread provocations. Troops led by Undius Kogeya Operations Commander fly the morning star flag in Intan Jaya Regency.
The spokesman for the National TPNPB-OPM Komnas Sebby Sambom said the flag was flown on Friday, December 31, 2021, at exactly 00:55 Eastern Indonesia Time. The flag stretches until Saturday, January 1, 2022.
"Warning shots have been issued with the aim of inviting the TNI-Polri that they are ready to continue the war in 2022," said Sebby.
