The Papuan contingent is still firmly perched at the top of the XVI National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) standings. Bumi Cenderawasih athletes are determined to maintain their position in order to become champions in their own land.
"Hopefully we can maintain this ranking until the closing," said Deputy Chair II of the National Peparnas Committee, Hans Hamadi in Jayapura, Tuesday (9/11) night.
Based on the data obtained, the host has collected a total of 107 medals with details of 49 gold, 27 silver and 31 bronze. This achievement puts Papua in the top position.
Meanwhile, the second place was occupied by the West Java contingent with a collection of 31 gold, 35 silver and 22 bronze. Then, Central Java ranks third with 30 gold, 23 silver and 28 bronze.
In the last few days, Papua has not shifted from the top position. They are certainly more motivated and try their best to make their area proud.
In addition to trying to score achievements, Papua also wants to achieve success in the implementation. This reason makes them even more excited in the arena of competition.
This spirit seems to continue to be maintained by the host athletes until the Peparnas implementation ends. In several sports, Papuan athletes often dominate, such as from the athletics arena, shooting, swimming, judo, weight lifting, to table tennis.
The implementation of Peparnas XVI Papua will be closed by President Joko Widodo at the Mandala Jayapura Stadium.
"Mr. President Joko Widodo will be present to close Peparnas immediately," said Menpora Amali when giving a press statement to the media crew at the Swiss Bell Hotel Papua, Tuesday (9/11) night.
