Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked the Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate to accelerate the implementation of the sky toll program to Papua and West Papua. The goal is that the economy in the eastern part of Indonesia can immediately go digital.
"So I ask the Minister of Communication and Information to ensure that West Papua and Papua are well served," said Ma'ruf at the virtual Raja Ampat E-Festival 2021, Monday (28/6).
According to Ma'ruf, the sky toll program is very important in Papua and West Papua because it can improve communication and information network infrastructure for the public and business actors. The hope is that this can be capital for the surrounding community to increase product innovation, expand marketing, and grow their digital economy and finances.
"This will encourage MSME players to enter the digital ecosystem. The success of the sky toll road will encourage innovation and accelerate the integration of digital finance in West Papua and Papua," he said.
Furthermore, the sky toll program is expected to accelerate economic growth in Papua. Ma'ruf also invited Papuan business actors to keep up with the times, including changes in people's shopping patterns.
Because now people are getting used to shopping online. Therefore, digital payment channels also need to be studied by local business actors in Papua, one of which is QRIS from Bank Indonesia (BI).
"The QRIS program launched by BI as a digital payment tool can be put to good use by tourism actors and MSMEs," he added.
Not to forget, Ma'ruf also asked the general public to take part in the Proud Traveling program in Indonesia, one of which is by visiting Raja Ampat in Papua which is famous for its underwater tourism beauty. However, he reminded that the local tourism movement should be accompanied by the discipline of health protocols.
"This is expected to support the recovery of the tourism sector. Business actors must prepare quality MSME products according to market interest, as well as culinary centers that are contemporary but still prioritize the uniqueness of Papua," he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny stated that he was ready to accelerate the accessibility of digital infrastructure to Papua. In fact, not only preparing infrastructure, the government also provides digital skills training for the community.
"This is done with basic skills through digital literacy. In 2021 digital literacy will be carried out for 12.1 million people and will be carried out every fiscal year, it is hoped that 50 million people will be digitally literate in Indonesia by 2024," said Johnny.
Meanwhile, BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said the national central bank was ready to support the expansion of QRIS to Papua. The target is that there will be 12 million merchants in Indonesia, including donations from Papua.
