The DPR has completed the revision of Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Papua Province (Otsus Papua). This bill was passed in a plenary session closing the session, Thursday (15/7).
The chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, said that the Special Autonomy Law mandated the establishment of a special agency led by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
"The new Papua Special Autonomy Law mandates the establishment of a Special Agency which is led directly by the vice president and responsible to the president in the context of synchronization, harmonization, evaluation and coordination of the implementation of Special Autonomy and development in the Papua region," said Puan in a plenary meeting, Thursday (15/7).
In addition, said Puan, the substance is no less important is the policy of political affirmation of indigenous Papuans. Namely with the existence of members of the Regency People's Representative Council (DPRK) from Papuans.
"The substance that is no less important is the affirmative policy in the political field towards Papuan Indigenous People, namely the presence of members of the Regency People's Representative Council (DPRK) who are appointed from Papuan Indigenous People," he said.
The new Papua Special Autonomy Law is expected to correct the shortcomings of special autonomy over the past 20 years so that it is right on target. As well as being able to increase the dignity of the people in Papua.
"Through this amendment to the law, it is hoped that it will be able to improve and perfect various shortcomings in the implementation of special autonomy over the past 20 years so that it is more targeted in order to increase the dignity of the people in Papua, especially the Papuan Indigenous People as part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," concluded Puan. .
