The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs has officially designated the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) as a terrorist group. The community supports the labeling effort because it is expected to increase the synergy of all law enforcement officers to create peace in Papua.
Peace in Papua is certainly not only a dream for the Papuan people, but also a dream for all Indonesian people. Of course we don't want the Papuan people to be terrorized by armed separatist groups.
The government has also taken various efforts to bring about peace in Papua. One of the ways chosen is to label a terrorist group as the Free Papua Organization, which has been fighting the government with weapons.
The government considers that the OPM and groups that attack Papuan civilians massively are categorized as terrorists. This is in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 5 of 2018.
Mahfud MD as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs said that the group that can be categorized as terrorist refers to Law No. 5 of 2018 concerning amendments to Law No. 15 of 2003 concerning the stipulation of government regulations in lieu of Law No. 1 of 2002 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of terrorism.
By giving the title of terrorists to OPM-KKB, of course to eradicate them will certainly be guided by Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning Amendments to Law Number 15 of 2003 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2002 concerning Eradication of Acts Terrorism.
What has been done by the OPM-KKB which is categorized as an act of terror is an act as regulated by Article 6 of Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning amendments to Law number 15 of 2003 concerning the stipulation of government regulations in lieu of law number 1 of 2002 concerning eradication terrorism, which reads:
Any person who intentionally uses violence or threats of violence that creates an atmosphere of terror or widespread fear of people, causes mass casualties by depriving other people of liberty or loss of life and property, or causing damage or destruction to strategic vital objects. , environment or public facilities or international facilities shall be punished with imprisonment for a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years, life imprisonment or the death penalty.
Of course, the Indonesian people cannot deny the memory of KKB's brutal acts such as: the stabbing of a woman in Juguloma village, Beoga on February 18, 2021, the murder of 2 elementary and middle school teachers in the same place on April 8-9, 2021.
From these actions, it is clear that the actions of the OPM are worthy of being called terrorists. Moreover, these actions have taken the lives of other people.
Meanwhile, the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri revealed the facts of attacks carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) on schools and health centers in Ilaga, Puncak Regency. The terrorist act was carried out by KKB from Sunday 2 May to 3 May 2021.
Mathius said the KKB attacked schools and health centers because they suspected that the TNI-Polri headquarters were there.
He also called on the public to fight the KKB action. This is because the KKB involved sympathizers in attacking and destroying public facilities.
As is known, the KKB again carried out its action by burning the elementary school building, health center and teacher's office in Ilaga District, Puncak Regency.
The group apparently also launched terror against the people in Papua. In fact, they are also openly targeting Javanese ethnic groups who live in Papua.
Related to this, the Karopenmas of the Public Relations Division of the Police Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono said that the TNI-Polri are obliged to ensure the security of the Papuan people from the threat of terrorist groups.
Rusdi said that the TNI-Polri in Papua have always tried to create security and peace. It also anticipates all forms of threats.
Meanwhile, the labeling of terrorists against the KKB is certainly not an exaggeration, considering that their movement is supported by weapons that they can use for their benefit.
The weapons they use are not playing games, they even dare to attack the security forces and threaten innocent Papuan civilians. The labeling of terrorists against the KKP, OPM and separatist groups in Papua who often spread terror is certainly appropriate, so that the government and security forces have a legal basis to maintain security and peace in Papua.
