Papua Special Autonomy was ratified, Forsemi thank you

Chairman of the Senior and Millennial Forum (Forsemi) Papua, Vice Admiral TNI (ret) Freddy Numberi expressed his gratitude to the Government, DPR RI and DPD RI in particular the special committee (Pansus) for Papua's special autonomy (Otsus) who have worked hard in the formulation of the bill. Second Amendment to the Special Autonomy Law number 21 of 2001, concerning Special Autonomy for the Papua Province.

Ambassador Freddy Numberi said that the Indonesian House of Representatives had ratified the Second Amendment Bill (RUU) on the Papua Special Autonomy Law.

"As the General Chairperson of Forsemi Papua, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Government, DPR & DPD RI in particular the Special Autonomy Team for the ratification of the Bill on the Second Amendment to the Papua Special Autonomy Law.
I am proud because from the beginning there were only 2 articles, it turns out that the final result was 18 articles that were accommodated in this Second Amendment Law,” he said.

For that, he continued, hopefully it can be supported by a Government Regulation (PP) for its implementation, and as a momentum to build a better Land of Papua in the future within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

The former Governor of Papua also appealed to all Papuans and West Papuans to welcome the Second Amendment to the Special Autonomy Law
Papua is and is not easily provoked by parties who continue to spread rejection of the good efforts made by the Government.

"This is a momentum for Papua's development in the future, let's make this the first step to make improvements in all fields in order to accelerate the improvement of the welfare of the Papuan people, especially Papuan Indigenous People," he said.

The Special Autonomy Program for Papua and West Papua through Law Number 21 of 2021 was previously considered successful in improving people's living standards. Through the Second Amendment of the Law on Special Autonomy for Papua, it is hoped that it can uphold human rights and the rule of law and democracy to encourage the recognition of basic rights.
Papuan Indigenous People (OAP).

In addition, the implementation of the Second Amendment to the Papua Special Autonomy Law is also considered the best “political compromise” to develop Papua physically and its human resources.

For example, through the past Otsus, 1,246 Papuan students were actively financed by Otsus funds, there were even Papuan youths and women studying at universities in the United States.

So far, based on the findings of a survey by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) in collaboration with a number of universities, as many as 82 percent of Papuans agree
with this Special Autonomy.

"This proves that Otsus is also very much needed by the Papuan people throughout the Land of Papua (Papua and West Papua Provinces)," he concluded in a release received in Jayapura City, Papua.
