SIDEY DISTRICT HEAD ASKED OTSUS TO CONTINUE FOR WELFARE

In order to accelerate the improvement of the welfare and economic development of the people in Papua and West Papua, the government has disbursed a Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus). The special autonomy funding support as a consequence of the special autonomy status is actually intended for education and health financing, as well as infrastructure development financing support. The management of these funds is a special authority given to the Provinces of Papua and West Papua to regulate and manage the interests of the local community according to their own initiative, based on the aspirations and basic rights of the Papuan people.

Mirdan Husein, Head of Sidey District, Kab. Manokwari assessed that Otsus had provided benefits to the OAP community in Sidey. "Until now, all villages have enjoyed special autonomy funds in the amount of Rp. 225 million per year, while at the district level we have received special autonomy funds of Rp. 50 million," said Mirdan.

As conveyed by the Governor of West Papua, continued Mirdan, the Prospect Fund received by districts and villages aims to optimize governance and development in the field of economy and basic services, especially for the Papuan people. The prospect is also a strategic program and as a leverage for the Village Fund program provided by the central government.

Hopefully, with this Prospect fund, it can increase the Papuan Human Development Index (IPM) and affirmation programs for indigenous Papuans, especially in the Sidey district.

Mirdan, who is also one of the Fakfak community leaders in Manokwari Regency, invites the Papuan community, especially in the Sidey district, to support the evaluation and revision plan of the Special Autonomy Law which is currently underway. Mirdan also asked his citizens not to be provoked by the invitation of groups that reject Otsus, because according to him they only have their own interests and do not carry the real aspirations of the Papuan people.
