The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in Papua hopes that XX PON will become an arena for increasing the economy in Indonesia's easternmost province.
"Currently, hotel construction is starting to bloom again after having been in suspended animation due to the outbreak of the new corona virus," Papua PHRI Chair Sahril Salim told Antara, Friday in Jayapura.
He said, specifically for the City and Regency of Jayapura, several new hotels appeared which would later become new jobs.
The hotels built are expected to accommodate PON XX participants from various regions in Indonesia.
"What is certain is that PHRI Papua is ready to support PON XX which is scheduled to take place from October 2-15," said Sahril.
When asked about the readiness to implement health protocols considering that COVID-19 is still endemic, Sahril admitted that hotels and restaurants in Papua in their operations always implement prokes.
"Prokes have become the standard during the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in hotels and restaurants but also in stalls preparing handwashing areas and soap," said Sahril Salim.
PON XX will be held in four districts and cities in Papua, namely the City and District of Jayapura, Merauke and Kab. Mimika.
Currently, there are 80 hotels from various categories spread across four districts and cities where the XX PON is held in Papua.
