The Arso 14 area, Skanto District, was officially declared a pilot area for durian agro tourism.
The declaration was carried out by the Acting Regent of Keerom, Dr. Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun, SE, MM, for the initiation of Paguyuban Pasundan Papua.
"This is a smart idea in seeing the opportunities that exist, the government cannot work alone, it needs support from all parties to build the economy," Ridwan said.
He also praised the contribution of the Pasundan people who were considered to have played an active role in maintaining the security situation in Papua to remain conducive. Therefore, Ridwan advised that it could be improved.
Currently, added Ridwan, there is a national economic recovery program due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative to build an agro-tourism area is considered very appropriate because so far this concept does not exist in Papua.
"What is certain is that agro-tourism is something new in Papua but has gone global. I hope this can be developed and carried on throughout Papua and West Papua, "said Ridwan.
Chairman of the Pasundan Papua Association, M. Irianto Pawika, explained that currently there are 12 hectares of land that will be developed into an agro-tourism area.
Where previously, the area was used as a California Papaya plantation, but because of its low economic value, he took the initiative to plant montong and porang durian seeds.
"In the meantime, we all have 70 families, if per family we plant 20 seeds, there are already 1,400 seeds planted," he explained.
Irianto added that the seeds were obtained independently. So he hopes that the Keerom Regency Government through the Agriculture and Fisheries Service can support it by providing durian and porang seeds.
After this, all aspects needed so that the area can become agro-tourism will be prepared.
"Our supporting facilities will be prepared, either independently or if there is support from the government, this is while waiting for the seeds to be planted to bear fruit, the estimate is 4 years," he added.
