DPR Commission II Supports the Expansion of Central Papua

Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, supports the expansion of Central Papua as an effort to spread public service centers and economic activities in the region.

"To accelerate the improvement of welfare and the economy, there must be a spread of public service centers and economic activities. We can accelerate the spread of these centers in a political context called expansion," said Doli.

According to Doli, to accelerate the improvement of welfare and economy, there must indeed be a spread of centers for public services and economic activities.

"We do not want that there are differences between east and center, central and west, and so on. This is our commitment to the leadership and members of Commission II of the DPR RI," he said.

Doli said that Commission II of the DPR was thinking about how to accelerate the expansion because there is still a moratorium on regional expansion. He has already conveyed to the Minister of Home Affairs that solving problems in Papua must be different so that there is one way that can be studied, namely the improvement of the Papua Special Autonomy Law.

Puncak Regent Willem Wandik said that the struggle to realize the division of Central Papua had been carried out for a long time, so the proposal was not recently proposed.

According to him, his party has invited academics, such as from Gajah Mada University (UGM), to study the division of Central Papua Province.

"We know that there is a requirement for the formation of a province, we ask the UGM study team to study what is feasible and independent, whether it is feasible or not so that it is in accordance with the wishes of the President and the Minister of Home Affairs, so that there is one region that wants to be expanded and there is a moratorium," he said.
