The Resilient Village Program Prevents the Distribution of Covid-19

The Jayapura City Government and Jayapura Regency in Papua utilize the Tangguh Village and the Tangguh RT / RW to restrain the spread of COVID-19 at the grassroots level by encouraging the community to take preventative measures.

"I strive for community participation to independently prevent and manage the COVID-19 pandemic," said Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tommy Mano.

One of the steps taken by the community is to guard the entrances to each area to keep people in and out and equipped with a place to wash their hands. Residents, he said, must wash their hands and wear masks in the region.

The Mayor said that youth in several RT / RW in Jayapura also disseminated information about COVID-19 on social media and video sites to decide the spread of diseases that attack the respiratory system.

The same thing also happened in Jayapura Regency. Jayapura Regent Matius Awoitauw said that the community at the RT / RW level had a role in carrying out regional quarantine.

"It is very instrumental and they must be responsible for (the region). Therefore, people are not allowed to enter and leave, unless the officer is given an ID card," Matthew said in the virtual discussion.

RT / RW plays a role in food distribution and logistics so that people can continue to carry out quarantine for 14 days.

According to the latest data from the national COVID-19 Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling, up to Friday (7/17) Papua Province recorded 2,496 total positive cases with 1,196 patients recovering and 26 people dying.
