Increasing Food Security, Keerom Regency Government Plots 1,000 hectares of Maize

To improve food security and economic recovery during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Keerom District Government planted corn, tubers, onions and rice on 1,000 hectares of land.

The Regent of Keerom, Muhammad Markum, SH.MH.MM, said that some of these programs have been considered by the district government to mitigate economic impacts, starting with planting corn which has been planned since 2019. "So this has been planned since 2019 and realized in 2020. Pas coincidence there is a Covid-19 pandemic, we at the same time hold it, "he said, Thursday (6/25/2020).

He revealed, there are several types of seeds to be planted, namely hybrid corn, trident rice, tubers and shallots in all villages in the Keerom Regency.

"Each seed will be planted in all the existing villages and see the contours of the surrounding land. Like this time in Skamto or Arsopura and its surroundings, we planted corn seeds in the ground. The productivity can be 7 tons in 1 hectare, today we will test everything, "he said.

He asked that the level of production be taken into account so that food security continues to run smoothly in a thousand hectares of land. "I'm sure this will work well. A few years ago we tried to find recipients or containers in areas outside Papua, there were those who were willing. Then the routine of planting corn and harvesting must be maintained, not just once and not producing any more, "pleaded the Regent Markum.
