Papua Provincial Government: Freeport Must Rapid Test All Employees |
The Papua Provincial Government has asked PT Freeport Indonesia to conduct a quick test of all its employees in the Mimika Regency. This was requested because of the high number of positive cases of Covid-19 in Mimika, particularly in the Tembagapura District which is the operational area of Freeport Indonesia.
Until Sunday (05/03/2020), the number of positive cases of Covid-19 in Mimika reached 87, of which 51 cases were in Tembagapura. "We urge that in this short time we hope that all Freeport employees wherever they are, from low land to high land, will have a rapid test," Papua Deputy Governor Klemen Tinal told a press conference in Jayapura.
According to him, Freeport must immediately explain to the government the current situation regarding the development of the corona case in its operational area. "Tomorrow we will call representatives of Freeport to the province to explain the situation. In Mimika (the number of positive corona virus cases) has increased because of Freeport," Klemen said.
He emphasized that although Freeport is an international-scale company, they are still companies that must comply with Indonesian government regulations.
Therefore, Freeport must obey the rules of safety protocols that have been made by the Papua Provincial Government. "Freeport is the same as other companies seeking profit, he must submit to the government. Freeport has been subject to this," Klemen said.
As of Sunday, the number of positive cases of Covid-19 in Papua Province reached 240 cases. Mimika is the district with the highest number of corona virus positive cases with 87 cases.
