Papua Provincial Government Extends Covid-19 Emergency Response Status

The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua is extending its emergency response status in handling the Corona Virus for the next 28 days, or twice the incubation period. The high number of positive cases of the corona virus in Papua is the reason for the extended emergency response status.

"The extension of the emergency response will take place twice the Covid-19 incubation period, from May 7 to June 4, 2020, given that the emergency response period for the prevention and treatment of corona viruses will end on May 6, 2020, and epidemilogically the Covid-19 case in Papua is still high, "said Deputy Governor of Papua, Klemen Tinal in Jayapura, Tuesday (5/5/2020).

With the extension of the status, continued Klemen, the expanded social dissemination will continue. Including the closing of exits and entrances to human flows, both airports and ports.

In addition, from the results of the meeting agreement, each district that has had a positive case of corona virus, is required to provide an independent quarantine place for people in monitoring (ODP) and patients under surveillance (PDP).

"Added to this new thing is that we will quarantine all ODP and PDP," Klemen said.

He also requested that the entire task force for handling Covid-19 at the district / city level be able to strengthen coordination, both between regencies and the provinces. Borders between districts will also be tightened with supervision from security forces and the health team.

"The government is cooperating with the TNI-Polri to close the border from Jayapura to Jayapura Regency, Jayapura to Keerom, so as not to spread the virus so that everyone stays in place, so that each can get out with healthy people," Klemen said.

Even so, Klemen said he was optimistic that the spread and handling of Covid-19 in Papua could be optimal because in terms of the recovery rate was quite high and the death rate could be suppressed. As of Tuesday, the number of positive cases of the corona virus in Papua reached 247.
