| Papua Provincial Government Prepares Concept of Long-Term Food Security |
The impact of the Corona virus disease pandemic (Covid-19) has reduced food availability. To that end, the Government of West Papua Province is preparing the concept of food security sourced from superior local commodities in order to improve food security amid the outbreak of the Corona virus.
In preparing for that, the Governor of West Papua, Drs Dominggus Mandacan held a limited meeting with the leadership of the regional apparatus organization in the environment of the West Papua provincial government in the Kaimana room, Swissbel-Manokwari hotel, Friday (17/4).
In a press statement to the governor's reporters said the relocation of the budget that had been shifted from the West Papua Regional Budget in 2020. "Besides being used to help the Covid-19 task force, it was also allocated for food security," said the Governor.
Regarding long-term food security, the governor asserted that there were village funds, apart from the central government, it was also budgeted for the province of West Papua worth Rp.225,000,000 per village, while the village level was Rp.150,000,000, while the district level was Rp 100,000,000.
"This fund has a clear target for each village, all that remains is to provide instructions for the implementation to support local food security," said the Governor.
The governor said, with the village funds, the community could buy vegetable seeds or fruits and other foodstuffs and then plant them in anticipation, if the Covid-19 outbreak was prolonged.
"If the community is planting local commodities, namely, cassava, taro, banana, petatas and vegetables in the next three months, we can cover our food without relying on imported products," he said.
To follow up on that, the Governor of West Papua will hold a coordination meeting with Regents of Manokwari Raya in Manokwari, Monday (20/4) and regents / mayors of Sorong Raya, Wednesday (22/4) in Sorong City.
