The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua Province stated that in 2019, the human development index in the Papua Province, Indonesia would progress compared to 2018.

Head of Regional Balance Sheet and Statistical Analysis (Nerwilis) BPS of Papua Province Eko Mardiana, in Jayapura on Monday, said the Papuan human development index reached 60.84 where this figure increased by 78 points or grew 1.30 percent compared to 2018.

"This means that babies born in 2019 have the hope to live up to 65.65 years, 0.29 years longer than the previous year," he said.

According to Eko, in 2019 also, children who are seven years old have hopes of being able to enjoy education for 11.05 years, 0.22 years longer compared to 2018.

"In addition, the population aged 25 years and over has an average of 6.65 years of education, 0.13 years longer than the previous year," he said.

He explained that meanwhile in 2019, people in Papua would fulfill their daily needs with an average per capita expenditure of Rp. 7,336 million per year, an increase of Rp. 17 thousand compared to the previous year.

"The human development index is an important indicator to measure success in efforts to build the quality of human life (community or population)," he said again.

He added that the human development index explained how the population could access the results of development in obtaining income, health, education, and so on.
