Jayawijaya Regency Government proposes the normalization of Uwe River to the PUPR Ministry |
The Government of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province has proposed the normalization of the Uwe River to the PUPR Ministry through the River Hall so that hundreds of people in the region avoid flooding.
.
Jayawijaya Regent Jhon Richard Banua in Wamena, the capital of Jayawijaya Regency, on Saturday, claimed to have ordered the Jayawijaya Public Works Department to make a proposal. "We are still coordinating with the provinces and from PUPR on how to straighten Uwe River water flow," he said.
.
Jhon Banua said that currently the provincial government is installing gabions or taluds on several sections, but there are still a number of points that need to be installed again.
.
Due to the abrasion of Kali Uwe, the connecting road between Welesi District and Wouma District was cut off and threatened a number of residents living on the edge of the river. "The provincial government has come down to make improvements on the broken road," he said.
.
Post-abrasion which eroded the outskirts of the Uwe River three years ago, the access road to Welesi District, which is the center of the FBLB performance, could not be passed by his vehicle.
.
Earlier, Deputy Regent of Jayawijaya Marthin Yogobi said that excavation of material which was carried out at Uwe River at any time also had an impact on the bridge breaking and threatening Wamena Airport.
.
"There is already a regent's letter to those who have customary rights not to do the excavation because we see a very large potential for disaster for Wamena Airport," he said.
