This young Papuan figure suspects that Lukas Enembe asked for permission to seek treatment in Singapore to buy time

A young Papuan leader, Jhon Mokay, who is the Secretary of the Papuan People's Concern Concern for the Archipelago (Barapen), is suspicious of Lukas Enembe's legal team's request that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) allow his client to return to Singapore for treatment.

Jhon sees the request for a permit as part of Lukas Enembe's efforts to buy time to resolve the alleged corruption case that has so far ensnared him.

"So this is it, he (Lukas Enembe) said he wanted treatment, these are old ways to buy time. So, I think the KPK must act quickly in responding to this. Don't let him stall for time later colliding with the election party (2024 democracy party), Pilkada, general election," said Jhon in Jayapura, Friday (16/12/2022).

Jhon's concern is that if the case of Papua's number one person is not resolved immediately, in the next 5 to 6 months, Papua will be very preoccupied with election matters. Moreover, in Papua Province there are already 3 new provinces resulting from division. There will be the possibility of intervention by political parties which could take advantage of the Lukas Enembe case for the benefit of the election of governors, regents, and the election of members of the legislature for the DPR RI, DPD, and the election of people's representatives in the regions.

"I'm afraid there will be intervention from the supporting political parties to use this opportunity to negotiate, maybe so," said the former student of the Magelang Military Academy (Akmil) in 2009.

Because of this, Jhon urged the anti-corruption agency to continue to massively collect evidence and investigate people within the Governor's power of Papua who have been aware of Lukas' activities in managing development funds in Papua Province.

The young man who was born in Yahim Village, Sentani, hopes that the KPK will not give permission for Lukas to seek treatment in Singapore, because he believes there are many domestic hospitals capable of treating Luke's illness. Even in Papua itself, there are hospitals with good facilities.

"As for the Governor's permission to go to Singapore for treatment, I don't think it's necessary. There are also many hospitals in Jayapura here. There is the DOK II Hospital, Provita Hospital, Abepura Hospital which has the same standard facilities as in Java and Singapore. Moreover, the Director of DOK II Hospital is also Luke's personal doctor," said Jhon.

Jhon also has other concerns regarding Lukas' request for treatment in Singapore. Jhon said, even though the Government of Indonesia and the Indonesian Parliament were seriously discussing the ratification of the Indonesia-Singapore extradition treaty, the process still needed time to be effective. Jhon is worried that Lukas is using him to escape from the corruption case that is ensnaring him.

"I don't think there was a collusion, there was another intention. The fear is that, by reason of illness, he (Luke) could flee abroad. For example (year) yesterday, with the excuse that he (Lukas) said he was sick, he ran through rat roads (illegal travel) to a neighboring country (Papua New Guinea) until finally he was deported back here (Papua)," said Jhon.

Quoted from cnnindonesia.com, on April 2, 2021, Lukas Enembe was deported from Papua New Guinea through the Skouw PLBN. Head of the Immigration Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Papua Novianto Sulastono said Papua New Guinea had deported Lukas and two of his companions for entering Papua New Guinea illegally and without documents. Two of Lukas' companions who were also deported were Hendrik Abidondifu and Ely Wenda.
