The Biak Numfor Regency Government, Papua is trying to anticipate inflation and the economic crisis by strengthening local food security programs for communities in various villages and districts/sub-districts.
"The regional economic policy strategy in an effort to prevent the global crisis is to intensify the agricultural sector for local food security," said Biak Regent Herry Ario Naap in Biak, Saturday.
Herry said that the food security program with local wisdom that is ready to be carried out is the planting of a million seeds of chili, taro, sago, pokem (a type of wheat) and green beans.
The ranks of the agricultural food security office have also prepared chili seeds, green beans and fertilizers to support regional policies to anticipate the food crisis.
He hopes that anticipation by inviting local stakeholders together can overcome the threat of an economic crisis in 2023.
"If the local food security program intensified by the Biak Numfor Regency Government is successful and is enjoyed by the residents, then the food crisis will have no impact because all the food needs of the residents are already available," he hoped.
Currently, the agricultural sector for food crops and fisheries has abundant potential to remote villages, so that the conditions are adequate to face the threat of a food crisis.
Regarding other programs that will also be continued in 2023, Herry ensured that they are in the form of direct cash assistance to beneficiary residents from various villages and districts.
"The Biak Numfor Regency Government has prepared regional policies to anticipate the global economic crisis," he said.
