Governor of Waterpauw: Don't call West Papua paradise if the vegetables are still from outside

Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw said that it was very strange if the vegetables consumed by the people in the province were still imported from areas outside Papua while the land was so fertile.

"However, this is a reality, and this concept of thinking must be changed. Don't call Papua a small paradise that has fallen to earth if most of the vegetables are imported from Sulawesi and Maluku," said Paulus Waterpauw during an inflation control meeting in the city of Sorong, Monday.

He said that this should be a serious concern for all district and city governments in the West Papua Province region to move the agricultural sector.

He hopes that all regional apparatus organizations will work and continue to educate the public to change their mindset so they are not lazy on this fertile land.

It is said that inflation and the prediction of the crisis in 2023 overshadow life requires us to move forward to strengthen the agricultural sector in order to provide food needs.

The steps taken by the West Papua government to support food security are through the Food Security Movement (Gertak Pangan). This movement has started with the replanting of oil palm in the Masni District, Manokwari Regency, planted with 2,000 chili seeds.

The West Papua Provincial Government has also launched the National Food Inflation Control Movement (GNPIP) program in Aimas District, Sorong Regency covering an area of three hectares.

"The National Movement to Control Food Inflation will be followed by other districts in West Papua to continue to encourage people to plant food crops on vacant land," said the Governor.
