West Papua Arfak Mountains District (Pegaf) Regent, Yosias Saroi, stated that the Anggi airport would soon be activated to drive the economic growth of the people in this area.
"We are building communication with ATR type airlines so that we can serve the Pegaf community," said Regent Yosias Saroi in Manokwari, Sunday (11/13/2022).
Regent Saroi said the increase in Anggi airport from 700 meters to 1500 meters was one of President Jokowi's promises to the Pegaf community in October 2019.
"The runway improvement and the construction of the Anggi airport passenger terminal have been built since 2020 by the Ministry of Transportation together with Rendani Manokwari Airport and Siboru Fakfak Airport," said the Regent.
The Regent hopes that by opening access to air transportation, it can improve the community's economy in the agricultural sector and mountain tourism which has not been maximized due to limited access.
"The Arfak Mountains do not have seas for ships to visit, therefore the community's economic growth is very dependent on land and air access," he said.
Regent Yosias Saroi also expressed his hope for the attention of the central government through the PUPR Ministry to assist the Pegaf Regional Government in accelerating the construction of access roads and bridges, as promised by President Jokowi.
"The President's promise regarding the extension of the runway and terminal has been fulfilled, and we are still waiting for the construction of roads and bridges which have not been fully paved so far," said the Regent.
Angie Airport
It is known that vegetable and fruit farmers from Pegaf district complained about the difficulty of marketing their produce. The main obstacle is access and expensive transportation costs to transport agricultural products from the area to the surrounding districts.
Lidia Wonggor, a vegetable seller from Pegaf district, said that Pegaf's agricultural output is quite high because most residents in the area use their yards to grow vegetables and fruits.
“There are a lot of agricultural products, but we have difficulty selling them at Pegaf because there are not enough buyers. Almost all residents have vegetable and fruit gardens in their yards,” said Lidia.
Under these conditions, said Lidia, some farmers from Pegaf chose to sell their agricultural produce to Manokwari Regency by paying vehicle fees ranging from Rp. 500,000 to Rp. 1,000,000.
"One sack of vegetables or fruit costs Rp. 50,000 to Rp. 100,000, while (passengers) are charged Rp. 100,000 per person. So if the total is up to Rp. 500,000 for one round trip (PP) Pegaf-Manokwari," he said.
