The Ministry of Trade's Efforts to Make Cooking Oil Price in Papua IDR 14,000/Liter

The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) is trying to lower the price of cooking oil in Papua to Rp. 14,000 per liter by flushing the local market with Oilita.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan revealed that the plan to send bulk cooking oil under the Oilita brand to Papua would be implemented in the near future. Through this shipment, at least 3,000 tons of cooking oil will flood markets in Papua and Maluku.

“Next week we will ship the people's packaged cooking oil of the Oilita brand to Papua and Maluku. We will flood 1,000-3,000 tons in one month at a price of Rp. 14,000/liter. So if it is done, throughout Indonesia, bulk cooking oil and cooking oil of the Oilita brand will be available with the highest price of Rp. 14,000/liter," he explained in an official statement, Sunday (7/8/2022).
 
Based on data in the Ministry of Trade's early warning system as of August 5, 2022, the price of bulk cooking oil in Papua was observed to be the highest in Indonesia, at Rp. 20,500 per liter. Meanwhile, for Maluku and North Maluku, they are Rp. 15,000/liter and Rp. 20,175 per liter.
 
For information, people's bulk cooking oil (MGCR) is already available at 18,024 partner retailers of Logistics and Retail Services Businesses (PUJLE) spread over 241 districts/cities in 25 provinces with special signs/banners HET.

The government has expanded the scope of distribution from previously bulk cooking oil to bulk cooking oil and people's packaged cooking oil. People's Packaged Cooking Oil must use the Oilita brand and include a HET of Rp. 14,000 per liter.
 
As of August 1, 2022, there are as many as 95 companies that have obtained approval for the use of the Oilita brand from the Ministry of Trade and will continue to grow considering the company's interest in the good implementation of this program. The Ministry of Trade has launched the MGCR program using the Oilita brand on July 6, 2022.

Zulhas is optimistic that Oilita will increase the reach of the MGCR Program and strengthen PUJLE's retail partners throughout Indonesia.

"Within one month, it is hoped that the program will reach especially the eastern part of Indonesia so that the HET for bulk cooking oil throughout Indonesia can be achieved immediately," he said.
