Sorong Mayor Lambert Jitmau, Monday, inaugurated a mini football stadium with an international standard field design.
According to Lambert, the existence of a football stadium worth IDR 67 billion is expected to produce more famous footballers replacing big names born from Sorong, such as Boaz Solossa.
Lambert Jitmau said that the construction of the football stadium took 11 months at the expense of the Sorong City budget.
The construction of the soccer stadium is also supervised by the Sorong District Attorney, the Sorong District Court, and the Sorong City Police Resort so that it proceeds according to procedure.
This football stadium, he said, accommodates as many as 8,000 spectators. The management of this stadium will be handed over to a third party so that it does not bother the local government in its management.
Lambert explained that the football stadium used to be a muddy field when it rained but could give birth to well-known national players such as Isak Fatary, Boaz Solossa, Ortizan Solossa, and Ricky Kambuaya.
With the establishment of this magnificent mini football stadium, Lambert hopes that in the future he will escape famous footballers to replace Boaz Solossa and his friends to make Papua and even Indonesia proud.
Head of the Youth and Sports Office of Sorong City, Fanik Teuhopiory, who gave a separate statement, said that the area of the field was 65 meters wide and 110 meters long.
He explained that this football stadium is not an international standard football stadium. But the field and turf design is an international standard.
It is said that the grass used for the football stadium is international stadium grass which requires special care. The grass also does not injure players who fall during the game.
"The design of the field starts from the ground up to the international standard grass so that even during the heavy rainy season the match can still be carried out because it is not flooded," added Fanik.
