Lyodra Shouts Papua and Freedom while Singing at the Viral Palace, Here Are the Facts

Video fragments of singer Lyodra Margareta Ginting while filling the festivities ahead of the RI 77th Anniversary ceremony at the Palace circulated on social media. There were the words Papua and merdeka that Lyodra shouted which were then interpreted in various ways by netizens. The Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Ali Mochtar Ngabalin defended Lyodra.

In the 18-second video clip as seen by detikcom, Wednesday (17/8/2022), Lyodra seemed to be on stage. He then said he would sing a song from the Papua region. After mentioning the word Papua, Lyodra then shouted independence.

"Now we move to the regional anthem, Papua. Merdeka," shouted Lyodra.
 
The original video of Lyodra singing is on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account. In that moment, Lyodra sang three songs, namely the song Kampung Nan Far in Mato, Rek Ayo Rek, and Apuse.

The moment Lyodra said the words Papua and Merdeka occurred during the song transition from Rek Ayo Rek to Apuse. Lyodra sang the song to the end smoothly.

But then the video clip went viral on social media. Ali Ngabalin said that Lyodra's cry for independence was solely in the context of Indonesia's Independence Day.
 
"First, it must be understood that this is an atmosphere of independence. Celebrating the independence of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17," said Ngabalin when contacted.
 
Ngabalin also said that there was a pause between the mention of the words Papua and merdeka. According to him, Lyodra did not mean to say that Papua is independent as netizens are talking about.

"So then he is proud of Papua and will immediately mention the title of the song and sing the Papuan song, space and then independence. Independence is a very nationalist cry that is completely far from what is discussed by friends in public spaces," said Ngabalin.

Ngabalin asked the community to support Lyodra. According to him, Lyodra is a talented singer.

"We give full support and motivation to Lyodra, don't be discouraged. In fact, people who tickle you are part of a form of attention," added Ngabalin.
