The Biak Regency Government makes efforts for OAP residents to cultivate milkfish


The government of Biak Numfor Regency, Papua is seeking the community and fishery business actors for indigenous Papuans (OAP) to cultivate freshwater milkfish to meet the needs of consumers in the market.

"The current demand for milkfish is very much needed by fishery investors because it can be used as bait to catch tuna," said Biak Regent Herry Ario Naap in Biak, Sunday.

He admitted, milkfish cultivation is currently being developed by the local government through the fisheries service to invite local Biak residents to use fish cages.

"The results of the milkfish cages, if successful, will bring in income for the welfare of the families of the people in various villages," he said.

The Regent of Biak Herry admitted that recently there were local businessmen in Sawadori Village, Oridek district, who harvested the brackish water fish (Chanos canos).

The type of milkfish cultivation in Sawadori Village, District has harvested 1,068 milkfish.
