The benefits of the President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) Sea Toll Program are greatly felt by the people who inhabit the outer islands of Indonesia in the West Papua Province.
For the people of Reni Village, Ayau Islands District, Raja Ampat Regency, the Sea Toll program answers transportation difficulties that have been experienced for decades.
Reni Village, Ayau Archipelago District, Raja Ampat Regency is one of Indonesia's outermost island villages bordering neighboring Palau.
Reaching Kampung Reni from Waisai, the capital of Raja Ampat district, you must use a chartered speedboat that costs tens of millions.
All of Reni's villagers are fishermen, so they use motorized boats or private longboats to reach the district capital to buy necessities of life or sell fishery products.
The cost of traveling by using a private engine boat is also high because you have to spend millions of rupiah to buy fuel oil or (BBM).
The transportation difficulties have been answered during the administration of President Jokowi. The Nusantara Belt Ship Five Sea Toll programs are presented to serve the people of Kampung Reni and the entire Ayau Archipelago at a low cost.
"During the administration of President Jokowi, only the people of the Ayau Archipelago, the border area with neighboring Palau, enjoyed public transportation at a low cost," said Head of Reni Village, Astus Sarwa.
According to him, the Sabuk Nusantara Lima ship with the Sea Toll program docks directly at the port of Kampung Reni to serve the community at a low ticket cost of Rp. 20,000 per passenger.
Not only Reni Village, but the Sabuk Nusantara Lima ship serves public transportation for all villages in the Ayau Archipelago.
He said that although the sea toll ship only docked twice a month at the port of Kampung Reni, it was very helpful for the economic activities of the local community.
Communities at low cost can reach Waisai city, the capital of Raja Ampat district and Sorong City to sell fishery products and buy daily basic needs.
"With the existence of the Sea Toll ship, we feel helped because we no longer need to use private engine boats with high fuel costs to reach urban areas," said Astus.
Astus said that before the Sea Highway program the local community found it very difficult to reach the city area. Especially during the wave season, people have to struggle through the waves in order to reach the city area.
Using a small engine boat from the Ayau Islands region to Waisai, the capital of the Raja Ampat district, through the open sea and during the south wind season, lives are at stake.
"We thank God and thank President Jokowi because the Sea Toll program overcomes our transportation difficulties in these border islands," he said.
Kampung Reni with a population of 439 people from 118 families feels proud to be part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
"We hope that the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which is now 77 years old, the government will continue to pay attention to us in this Indonesian border area," added Astus.
Government Attention
Not only low-cost public transportation facilities, but other basic service infrastructures are also the focus of the government for the welfare of the people of the Ayau Archipelago, Indonesia's border region with neighboring Palau.
One of them is lighting by using solar energy. The people of Kampung Reni have enjoyed solar energy electricity or solar cell assistance from the Raja Ampat Regency government.
The Head of Astus Warwa Village explained that the Raja Ampat district government through the Mining Service in 2018 provided 80 units of solar sell assistance for the local community.
The assistance has made people enjoy electricity until now. It depends on the community how to take care of it so that it lasts a long time.
Kampung Reni also has three generators which were purchased with village funds. However, it is temporarily damaged and in the process of being repaired, but the government-assisted solar cells are still used for aviation.
Deputy Regent of Raja Ampat Orideko Iriano Burdam said that public services for the people of the Ayau Islands received serious attention.
He explained that direct cash assistance and other social assistance channeled by the government through banks would certainly make it difficult for people in the archipelago to take assistance because banks are located in cities.
Therefore, said the Vice Regent, the regional government cooperated with the banking sector to go directly to villages in the archipelago such as the Ayau Islands to distribute the aid.
This policy is carried out so that people in the archipelago no longer need to come to the city with expensive travel costs.
"This is a form of equitable government service where the government is present to remote areas and remote islands to overcome community difficulties," he said.
Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw, who gave a separate statement, said that the local government continues to improve public services to the outer islands to show that the state is present for the welfare of the people within the borders of the Republic of Indonesia.
He explained that President Joko Widodo through instruction number 01 of 2021 instructed to accelerate the development and management of border areas in order to realize prosperity for the community.
Because of that, he had twice come to the Ayau Archipelago to shop for food. The term food shopping means going directly to the community to see the shortcomings and difficulties that are still faced by the community to be overcome.
"Looking at the infrastructure needed by the community such as clean water facilities and others, so that people feel that the state is always there to answer the difficulties they face," said the Governor.
