A number of traditional leaders, community leaders, youth leaders, academics, expressed support for the government's efforts to build the welfare of the Papuan people through regional expansion. It was stated that the actions against the New Autonomous Region (DOB) were full of the interests of certain groups and had the potential to disrupt the security situation and delay the progress of the Papuan people. Papuan youth leader Ali Albert Kabiay in his statement stated that the agenda for rejecting the new autonomous regions was not purely an aspiration brought by the Papuan people. Ali assessed that the Papuan people were being used by the political elite for their interests in Papua.
“There are certain groups who raise the agenda of rejecting the new autonomous regions, they are on behalf of the Papuan people. Even though the Papuan people themselves are not like that, the aspirations of rejecting the new autonomous regions are not pure as the voice of the people, many Papuans are only used, the Papuans themselves want regional expansion, "said Ali Kabiay.
Meanwhile, Paskalis Netep, as the leader of the Papua Province Indigenous Peoples Institution, said that the planned demonstration was full of provocations from irresponsible parties. It was stated that mass mobilization related to the rejection of new autonomous regions was prone to disrupting the security situation in Jayapura City. In fact, Paskalis said that government policies related to new autonomous regions should be supported for the progress of Papua.
"Don't be provoked by the news spread by irresponsible parties just for mass mobilization. Tabi territory is a land of peace, don't disturb the security situation, Tabi also fully supports the government's plan," said Paskalis.
In line with the previous statement, Apolo Safanpo who is the Chancellor of the University of Cenderawasih, Papua, explained that similar aspirations have been conveyed and have now reached the Central Government for consideration. Regarding the plan to form a new autonomous region, Apolo told students and the entire community not to be provoked by invitations that could disrupt the security situation in Papua.
“Aspirations have been discussed at the central level, so there is no need to take action anymore. In fact, all of us should be able to support the government's efforts in advancing Papua, and for students or the public not to be easily provoked by invitations that can disrupt security," said the Chancellor.
As far as the polemic over the formation of the new autonomous regions, it is known that South Papua is the region that is said to be most ready to implement its new autonomy. This is considering that the South Papua Province (PPS) plan has often been discussed through various forums involving many parties including a number of regional heads along with community leaders.
“PPS is not the first time it has been discussed, in fact it has been for years. That's why we in the Anim-Ha area take it easy. Our community here is never excited and has prepared themselves to welcome PPS,” said Paskalis Imadawa as Anim-Ha Indigenous Community Leader.
Paskalis also added that he did not agree with the parties who rejected the DOB. This is because the group is considered to have not understood the benefits of the division of a new province.
"I understand very well the parties who will take action against the new autonomous regions, they do not understand the benefits of the division of the province, they can be provoked by groups that are against the government. Even though this is the right time to bring Papua to prosperity," he said.
