BAKTI Kominfo builds 196 BTS in Bintang Mountains this year

The Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) will build 4G Base Tranceiver Station (BTS) cellular towers at 196 points in the Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua in 2022.

"BAKTI has approved 196 sites this year, out of the proposed 261 sites (BTS 4G towers)," said Head of the Communications and Information Service for the Bintang Mountains Alferus Sanuari in Jayapura, Wednesday.

Alferus said that of the planned construction of 4G BTS towers at 196 points, 44 of them are in the process of being worked on. As for now, there are already 10 4G BTS towers that are on air or "on air" in the district with the motto Terib Tibo Semo Nirya (Let's Rise to Build Together).

The construction of 4G BTS towers in the Bintang Mountains will be spread over 277 villages and 34 districts.

Furthermore, Alferus revealed a number of challenges faced in the construction of 4G BTS towers in the Bintang Mountains, one of which was the difficulty of accessing the 15,683 square km district.

He said access to the Star Mountains could only be reached by air. This is further exacerbated by uncertain weather conditions.

"So if the weather is bad, it means that there is no delivery process (material) and team delivery. So that is the obstacle," he said.

Another challenge is that there are still people who do not understand the benefits of building a 4G BTS tower. Related to this, Alferus and his team consistently continue to go to the field to provide education to the community about the importance of this infrastructure.

In fact, his party also requested that local workers and entrepreneurs be involved in the construction of the 4G BTS tower so that it is hoped that a sense of belonging to the building will emerge.

"So we empower them so that they feel ownership of the building, and they can maintain that the building can be used for a long time," he said.

Security conditions that are still not fully conducive in Papua are also a challenge. He said security issues in other areas in Papua could affect the implementation of the construction of 4G BTS towers in the Bintang Mountains.

"So there is fear, there is worry from fellow workers," said Alferus.

Therefore, his party continues to strive to provide assistance to workers during the construction of 4G BTS towers.

In addition, socialization was also carried out to the public so that they would also support and maintain the telecommunications infrastructure development process.

Alferus hopes that despite various challenges, the construction of the 4G BTS tower in the Bintang Mountains can be carried out to completion so that the community can enjoy optimal telecommunication access.

"If it is possible, it will be completed, either this year or next year, but it must be completed so that we can eliminate the blank spot areas in the mountainous region," he said.
