Papua Province will soon have the first international standard campus named the Papua International University (UIP). The establishment of the campus was based on the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24/E/O/2022 concerning the Permit for the Establishment of the Papua International University. The decree was issued on January 17, 2022.
Quoted from the official Instagram account of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Papua International University has two excellent faculties, namely science and technology and teacher training and education.
This campus will also be equipped with an international-scale Research Center to support student learning facilities. Papu International University will also bring in lecturers from Papua and from abroad with scientific backgrounds that are in line with campus needs and progress in Papua.
Chairman of the People's Representative Council (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo said the learning method at the Papua International University had been adapted to international higher education qualifications. Among others, through the application of an international standard TKBEL education platform application as well as a partnership system established with various universities abroad.
"So, students can study for two years at the Papua International University and continue for two years at other foreign universities," he said.
Deputy II of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Abetnego Tarigan is optimistic that the establishment of the Papua International University can produce quality human resources who will contribute to development in Papua.
"UIP is expected to be a light from the east to start a new foundation for the development of East Indonesia that is qualified, competitive, and able to improve performance and absorb potential workers who are qualified in their fields," said Abetnego.
According to Abetnego, UIP will have good potential in developing cooperation in the field of international education because Papua is strategically located close to and bordering several countries, including Papua New Guinea (PNG), Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific countries.
"UIP needs to develop networks with universities and institutions abroad to improve its international position and image as with its closest and strategic neighboring countries," he said.
