The Sea Toll Road Reaches the Central Mountains of Papua

Sea toll ships have now reached the central mountains of Papua by synergizing multimodal operations in Nduga Regency. Head of the Jayapura Class II Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP Class II Jayapura) Taher Laitupa said this would increase related service businesses at ports in the marine highway ecosystem.

"This makes Nduga Regency the southern entrance for the Central Mountains (Lapago) region," said Taher.

He said the implementation of the sea highway in 2021 continues to develop by combining main elements such as ships, route networks, and ports. This includes supporting elements such as optimizing the path of rivers and lakes in coastal and mountainous areas.

For this reason, Taher ensured that KSOP Jayapura continues to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the sea highway on the T-26 route. The route has served several isolated areas in Papua Province, such as Atsy Agats Port, Sawaerma, Mumugu and Boundary Batu Nduga Regency.

"From the regional characteristics of the central mountains, one of the focuses of the implementation of the Sea Toll Road is the scheduled and regular logistics distribution service in Nduga Regency," explained Taher.

He said, Nduga is a district directly adjacent to several areas in the central mountains such as Jayawijaya Regency, Lanny Jaya Regency, Puncak Regency, and Tolikara Regency. Nduga Regency currently requires quick action to carry out equitable and just development.

"With a very high level of community needs, of course, a well-organized and well-scheduled logistics supply is needed with the use of the Rede ship which can reach river waters in this central mountainous region, this demands that in the near future the implementation of the Sea Highway must be implemented," said Taher.

Meanwhile, Head of Section for Lala and Port Business Willem Thobias Fofid said that at this time the community really needed the presence of the state in the form of real development. Especially in the fields of education, health, people's economy, and basic infrastructure.

Willem said that the residents of Nduga also admitted that they really needed logistics distribution services and port and airport transportation as well as multimodal connectivity. "Including land access that can connect the Mumugu Satu-Kenyam, Kenyam-Mbua, Kenyam-Iniye, and Kenyem-Gearek routes, including the access connecting Nduga-Yahukimo," said Willem.
