The Governor of West Papua Province Dominggus Mandacan has pushed for the expansion of the new autonomous region (DOB) of the province of West Papua Barat which has been championed by the people of the Sorong Raya region for about 12 years.
"The support of Governor Dominggus Mandacan is proven by issuing the Decree of the Governor of West Papua Number 125/72/3/2020 concerning the Approval for the Establishment of the Province of West Papua as a division province of West Papua Province on March 12, 2020 and this decree has been submitted to the President through the Minister of Home Affairs and to the Ministries and related institutions, "said Lambert Jitmau, Head of the Team for the Acceleration of Expansion of the candidate for Southwest Papua Province, in Sorong.
He said that the West Papua Governor's Decree was to complete or fulfill and update the files needed in the framework of the formation of the New Autonomous Region of the Province of Southwest Papua.
This is because the main requirement for the expansion of the new autonomous region of Southwest Papua Province must be approved by the Governor of West Papua Province because the areas that will become the Southwest Papua New Autonomous Region are currently in West Papua Province.
"So if there is an opinion that the recommendation for the expansion of the West Papua New Guinea is wrong, because the candidate for Southwest Papua Province is in the administrative area of West Papua Province," Lambert said.
Lambert Jitmau explained that in the Governor's decree, the Chairperson of the Acceleration Team was the Mayor of Sorong, the Deputy Chair was the Regent of South Sorong, the Team Secretary was the Regent of Tambrauw, the Deputy Secretary was the Regent of Raja Ampat, the Treasurer was the Regent of Maybrat and the Deputy Treasurer was the Regent of Sorong.
The team formed by the Governor is a legitimate team to fight for the Southwest Papua DOB according to the expectations of the people of the Sorong Raya region because the expansion of the West Papua New Guinea is to shorten service distances and encourage development for the welfare of the community.
It was said that the team had worked optimally and had conducted various hearings with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Kemenkopolhukam, and Commission II of the DPR RI to encourage the expansion of the West Papua DOB.
"A written report on the work of the Southwest Papua DOB acceleration team has been submitted to the Governor of West Papua through the Head of the West Papua Provincial Secretariat Government Bureau," he said.
According to him, Governor Dominggus Mandacan has also extended the Acceleration Team Decree for the next two years or until the establishment of the Southwest Papua Province has been declared official by the Central Government.
