Papua Special Autonomy Has Not Failed

Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tomi Mano (BTM) emphasized that Papua's special autonomy (Otsus) did not fail, but had to be thoroughly evaluated.

This was said by BTM, during a limited meeting with SKPD, Forkompinda and traditional leaders in Port Numbay, Tanah Tabi.

This meeting is with the agenda of following up the planned hearing (RDP) of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) regarding the successes and failures that have been going on since 2001 until now in Papua Province.

According to BTM, it is necessary to evaluate Otsus since it became effective in 2001 until now. BTM has also requested that Otsus not be returned to the center.

BTM believes that since the existence of Otsus, many things have happened to the people of Papua, especially in several priority areas according to the mandate of Otsus in Papua.

In addition to the evaluation, BTM also asked the central government and the Papua province to make clear the use and allocation of funds.

BTM added, if the special autonomy funds are used inappropriately, it is necessary to conduct an examination of each agency or agency to be responsible for the utilization and use of the special autonomy fund.

BTM again firmly said, Otsus did not fail, it only needed to evaluate the extent of implementation in each district and city in Papua to date.
