The West Papua Church of Papua Communion (PGGP), supports the implementation of a peaceful and healthy regional election in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. All parties are expected to work together for the success of the simultaneous regional elections in 9 regions in West Papua.
The Chairperson of the West Papua PGGP Rev. Shirley Parinusa said, PGGP in principle stands neutral in the simultaneous regional elections in 9 regions. According to him, neutrality should not be confused with golput or not choosing one of the candidates.
"PGGP fully supports the successful and healthy regional elections by all parties," he said at a press conference at the PGGP West Papua office, Manokwari, Papua.
Rev. Shirley emphasized that Pilkada is a democratic party where the people will use their voting rights to vote and support certain candidates based on their conscience after evaluating objectively, freely, and without any pressure.
Pilkada is the momentum and responsibility of what candidates have done for their region as a determinant of a candidate's eligibility to be elected or not.
He also requested that all parties maintain conduciveness and security by not spreading hate campaigns in the form of hoaxes and provocations, because in the end it only creates conflict in the community.
He hopes that all candidate pairs and election administrators comply with health protocols as recommended by the government, especially the KPU regulations. According to him, it is important to implement health protocols so that there are no pilkada clusters in West Papua.
"All parties are obliged to carry out the 3 M, namely using masks, washing hands and maintaining distance when outside the house," he said.
