Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw ordered the Chief of Police in his ranks to secure all stages of the Pilkada simultaneously in 11 districts in Papua Province, on 9 December 2020.
This was followed by security disturbances related to Pilkada in a number of areas, including riots accompanied by burning of offices after the announcement of the results of the acceptance tests for Civil Servant Candidates (CPNS) in Keerom Regency and several other districts, recently.
The new Kapolres, immediately adapt and build active communication with community leaders and all levels of society.
"I hope that the Kapolres of the Papua Regional Police, especially those who will carry out the Pilkada, will always build communication with all figures and organizations in their respective regions, in order to increase security," said Waterpauw.
The former North Sumatra Police Chief has encouraged all Kapolres in the ranks of Polda Papua to approach the younger generation. This is because young people are seen as easily provoked by provocation and hoax information.
He gave an example of the Asmat Regency Bawaslu office which was damaged by a group of supporters of the Regent Candidate Pair, following hoax information circulating on Sunday, October 18, 2020.
"The new Kapolres, immediately adapt and build active communication with community leaders and all levels of society. Describe the main tasks in which you serve, and anticipate and overcome all forms of security problems that occur," said Waterpauw.
Not forgetting that Waterpauw reminded all its members to improve discipline of health protocols for the community, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Such as the use of masks and the application of maintaining distance.
