The Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) visited four districts in Papua to see firsthand the readiness to hold the 2020 Pilkada in the region.
Four districts out of 11 districts holding regional elections were visited by the RI Bawaslu Commissioner with the team, namely Mountains Bintang Regency, Keerom, Waropen, Yapen Islands, and Supiori Regency.
On the sidelines of the visit, according to him, his party also visited the Papua Provincial KPU Office in Jayapura City.
He said that his party wanted to look closely at the readiness of the budget, the process towards implementing the pilkada and the problems found in the field related to the implementation of the elections later as well as the readiness to comply with COVID-19 health procedures such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for election supervisors.
The PPE is a fixed procedure for an election supervisor, in the current scheme the PPE will be held by the Provincial Bawaslu, then distributed to the district / city Bawaslu.
He said, there are some regions that are willing to provide PPE, even only masks, this is due to the high costs due to the difficulty of the terrain, such as in the Bintang Mountains Regency with a lot of budgets for air transportation and the cost of renting air transportation has also increased higher than the previous one.
