The Nationalism Spirit of Papuan Children Amid the Pandemic



This month is August to coincide with Indonesia's 75th Independence Day. Indonesian people are usually enthusiastic about welcoming independence day starting from the beginning of the month by decorating villages, houses and other public places with red and white ornaments.

Unfortunately, the celebration of Indonesia's independence day is different from the previous year due to the current pandemic. But there are various ways that the Indonesian people do in commemoration of Independence Day, one of which is holding competitions. Although there are limited competitions and must adhere to health protocols.

As did the 6th batch of PMM (Community Service by Students) group of UMM (University of Muhammadiyah Malang) held competitions with the children of Kampung Wambes, on August 17, 2020.

The competition is carried out, namely singing competitions or the Indonesian national anthem. There is also a question and answer competition about Indonesia's nationality and history and other competitions. It is hoped that these competitions can foster a spirit of nationalism in children from an early age.

The race went on smoothly. The children of Kampung Wambes are very enthusiastic in participating in all the competitions held.

"We want to instill love for the country from an early age, foster a spirit of nationalism and State defense in them.
