Evidence of Special Autonomy Funds Increase the Sons of Papuan Children

Seven of Papua's best sons and daughters graduated from Corban University, Oregon, USA. One of them even graduated with the title magna cum laude.

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe and his wife came directly to witness the proud moment, which he continued with a traditional stone-burning ceremony as an expression of gratitude.

The Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, could not hide his pride when interviewed by VOA by telephone, two days after attending a graduation ceremony at Corban University, Oregon, USA.

Seven of Papua's best sons and daughters graduated from the leading university, including one who graduated with the title magna cum laude. Sherina Fernanda Msen, a student majoring in accounting, leadership and management was even awarded the "Top Accounting Student" by the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants OSCPA.

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe congratulated Sherina Fernanda, who graduated with magna cum laude from Corban University, Oregon, and is now offered three other prestigious campuses to continue her education.

The seven Papuan children are part of around 30 Papuan teenagers sent to study in the state of Oregon using special autonomy funds.

He added that since the program to send Papuan children abroad began in 2014, around 500 people had studied in various countries, mostly in America.

Gratitude for Papua Governor Lukas Enembe, all students and those who just graduated were poured in a traditional stone-burning ceremony.

"We made a pretty good stone burn near the student dormitory on the edge of the Oregon campus. We invite all students and residents around them. In traditional ceremonies like that their lecturers and also myself gave messages and advice for their future lives. We welcome them, be proud and give them awards. It's really a touching family atmosphere, "said Luke.
