Catholic Church Invites People To Be Volunteers Support Government Against Corona Virus

Indonesian Catholic Churches call for appeals to Catholics amid a corona virus pandemic outbreak. The Catholic Church affirms its support for the handling of Covid-19 which has claimed up to 38 lives in Indonesia on Saturday (3/21/2020).

Secretary General of the Jakarta Archdiocese (KAJ) Father V Adi Prasojo Pr conveyed the Catholic Church's support for the handling of Covid-19 in several points. This has also been agreed with the Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling.

Father Adi Prasojo said that the Catholic Church and Indonesian Catholics always support and implement government policies.

"The Indonesian Catholic Church is part of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia and is ready to jointly defend the country and love the country," said Father Adi.

In support of the government, Father Adi said hospitals and other medical personnel would take part as volunteers. They will help the government fight the 2019 Coronavirus Disease or Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.

The Catholic Church also invites Catholics to volunteer to support the government together to face the Covid-19 plague.

"Catholic mass organizations, such as the Catholic Women of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian Catholic Bachelor Association, Catholic Youth, the Catholic Student Association of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Indonesian Catholic Community Forum and Catholic universities, institutions and other Catholic elements provide themselves to volunteer to support the joint government - facing the Covid-19 epidemic, said Father Adi.

Finally, Father Adi conveyed the readiness of Catholic scholars and scientists to contribute to the government's suggestion against Covid-19.

Father Adi Prasojo also appealed to all dioceses in Indonesia to be required to abolish daily and weekly worship services and all worship rituals that involve and bring in many people. The Mass is good at the parish level, environment, region and so on, starting today, Saturday 21 March to 3 April 2020.

"After that period, the Indonesian Catholic Church will evaluate according to the policies and directions of the government," said Father Adi.

Father Adi Prasojo conveyed the statement of the Catholic Church after meeting with the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) who is also the Chair of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling Doni Monardo at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta.

On the same occasion, the Head of BNPB who is also the Chair of the Task Force Doni Monardo expects various parties to increase the collective awareness of the community. The community is expected to be aware of the dangers of the corona virus outbreak so that they are able to make various efforts to prevent and mitigate.

"It is hoped that casualties can be reduced," Doni said.

Doni also said that the Indonesian Catholic Church provided assistance in handling Covid -19. The assistance was in the form of doctor support which could be part of a team of volunteers and a number of Catholic hospitals for Covid - 19 patients.
