An ASN in Nduga Regency with the initials AN is suspected of having received a flow of village funds to buy 615 ammunition which will be handed over to the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB). This allegation emerged after the police arrested the head of Wusi Village, Terius Labi, who was one of the donors for AN.
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri admitted that he had sent a letter to the relevant ministry so that the use of village funds could be monitored more closely. "I have sent a letter to the ministry and I have conveyed it to the Minister of Home Affairs so that we can strictly control the use of village funds," he said in Jayapura, Monday (15/8/2022).
The current pattern of village fund transfers, continued Fakiri, allows for fraud without proper supervision. "I ask that village funds do not go directly to the village account, if possible, enter the regional treasury so that it can be monitored what this money is for," he said.
This is because funds that go directly to the village or village treasury, especially in mountainous areas, are difficult to monitor due to geographical factors.
Fakhiri also urged the government to immediately make regulations to overcome these problems. Fakiri emphasized that the efforts of the security forces to deal with the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) would be useless if the sources of funds were not cut. "We are signaling that this money is being used to help the KKB struggle and of course this needs to be taken quickly," said Fakiri. Previously reported, Yalimo Police personnel arrested an Nduga Regency ASN with the initials AN in Elelim District for carrying 615 rounds of ammunition on Wednesday (29/6/2022).
The arrests began with the observation of officers who saw AN's suspicious movements while driving a two-wheeled vehicle.
"After being intercepted and searched, a number of evidences were found, namely AFN-made weapons and a number of 615 rounds of ammunition," said Director of Criminal Investigation at the Papua Police, Kombes Faizal Ramadhani in Jayapura, Thursday (30/6/2022).
Then, on July 2, 2022, the police arrested T in Jayapura. T was suspected of selling 160 rounds of ammunition to AN.
After that, Pomdam XVII/Cenderawasih secured the BI Kopda and TJR Koptu for allegedly being involved in the case. On August 4, 2022, the police arrested the head of Wusi Village, Terius Labi for allegedly being one of the givers of money for AN worth Rp. 150 million. In addition, the police also appointed two village officials on the People's Wanted List (DPO). "The first initial is A, he is a village secretary, while the other initials GK is the village head," said Director of Criminal Investigation of the Papua Police, Kombes Faizal.
