Papua and West Papua have been granted regional status with Special Autonomy (Otsus) since 2001. It has now been almost two decades since the policy of Otsus status has been implemented. The government also guarantees that special autonomy is not lost, only an evaluation of improvements is carried out, so that the people of Papua and West Papua can truly feel it.
Slamet Lawway, Chairperson of the Indonesian Mosque Youth Communication Agency (BKPRMI) Kaimana assessed that the Otsus program is very much needed by the Papuan people, especially OAP because with the Otsus funds there are many things that can be done, one of which is infrastructure development.
According to him, the Central Government has provided many facilities for the Regional Government (Pemda) so that they can use the Special Autonomy funds for development needed by the regions such as infrastructure and human resources, especially Papuan indigenous human resources.
Regarding the issue of rejection of the sustainability of Otsus, Slamet continued, according to him, it was only carried out by individuals who did have certain aims and objectives and did not act on behalf of the Papuan people as a whole.
Slamet invites the people of Papua, especially in Kab. Kaimana to jointly maintain the peace of the Land of Papua and support positive policies to develop and advance the Land of Papua such as Otsus.
