The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) ensures that the construction of supporting infrastructure and the XX National Sports Week (PON) venues in Papua Province are ready to be used according to the XX PON schedule in October 2021.
Not only ensuring that the work is completed on time according to the target, the PUPR Ministry also maintains quality in terms of strength, neatness, comfort and safety to meet international standards.
Director General of Human Settlements at the PUPR Ministry Diana Kusumastuti said that five venues that were 100% completed and handed over to the Regional Government had obtained development quality certification so that they could be used for international competitions.
The five venues are the Aquatic Arena, Istora Papua Bangkit, Cricket Arena, Indoor and Outdoor Hockey Venues which are mandated by Presidential Instruction No. 10/2017 concerning Support for the Implementation of XX PON and XVI National Paralympic Week 2020 in Papua Province.
Arena Aquatic's Field of Play (FOP) has obtained a Certificate from the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and has met Olympic standards in July 2020. The pool is equipped with advanced technology equipment and systems, such as pool walls using modular steel panels covered with PVC liner membranes to avoid from the risk of leakage for a long period of time.
"The competition pool is also equipped with an Automatic Moveable Bulkhead so that it can be used for short distance matches of 25 meters," Diana said in a written statement broadcast on Saturday (24/7).
He added that the construction of the Aquatic Arena also uses Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology which includes structure, architecture, mechanical, electrical to landscape. The use of BIM is optimized to meet international standards set by FINA.
"Utilization of technology such as photovoltaic installed on the roof as a back-up energy source also aims to reduce operational and maintenance (OP) costs", Diana said.
Regarding technology, other venues such as Istora Papua Bangkit were also built with the latest construction technology which ensures quality and safety as top priorities. "Istora Papua Bangkit won awards from the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) for 3 categories at once, namely the curved steel roof structure with the longest span, the widest dome roof without bolts, and the textile duct installation with the longest internal ring," continued Diana.
For the Outdoor Hockey Venue, on July 23, 2020, the FOP Certification process in the Outdoor Hockey field was carried out by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Field Certification Facilitator. "Similarly, the Cricket Arena in Papua is the first Cricket Arena in Indonesia that meets international standards," Diana explained.
In addition to the five venues, the Ministry of PUPR also has the task of building 3 additional venues, namely the Roller Skate, Rowing and Archery Arena at a cost of Rp. 128.2 billion, which currently has reached 97.77% progress and is targeted to be completed by 31 July 2021.
"Furthermore, after everything is completed, the OP activities will be carried out by the Provincial Government. The Ministry of PUPR has prepared the SOP so that operations and maintenance can be carried out optimally," said Diana.
In addition to building the venue, the Ministry of PUPR has also completed the construction of supporting infrastructure and infrastructure, namely the construction of six flats for athletes' homestays in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, and Merauke Regency, the construction of the Telaga Ria - Khalkote - Kitchen Papua road in Kab. Jayapura along 5.16 km in 2020 which has been completed at a cost of Rp 64.5 billion.
Furthermore, the 7.36 km Merauke – Kuprik – Tanah Miring road has also been completed to support motor racing activities in Merauke Regency worth Rp 30.2 billion, as well as the Drainage and Sanitation System which has been implemented in April – October 2020 at a cost of Rp 10, 9 billion.
