The venue, which is adjacent to Lukas Enembe Stadium and Istora Papua Bangkit, in the Sports Complex of Kampung Harapan Sentani, Jayapura Regency, is one of the world-class iconic venues.
Built on an area of 28,000 square meters with a building area of 17,783 square meters, this venue is prepared to hold competitions for aquatic sports such as swimming, water polo, and scenic jumping.
Work on this venue is handled directly by the Ministry of PUPR with partner PT Waskita Karya (Persero) and began work on December 7, 2018. The construction of aquatic venues is part of the mandate given by President Joko Widodo to the Ministry of PUPR, based on Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 10 of 2017 regarding the implementation of PON XX and National Paralympic Week XVI 2020 in Papua. Apart from Aquatic, the PUPR Ministry was also given the mandate to build three other venues namely Istora, Cricket, and Hockey.
Even though in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic which has been inflamed since early 2020, the work on this venue was completed faster than the target, namely in July 2020 by swallowing an APBN budget of Rp.
The Governor of Papua Province, Lukas Enembe, was pleased and proud of the readiness of the XX National Sports Week (PON) venue, when conducting a review at the Aquatic venue how long ago.
The governor is proud that the results of the venue construction will later be beneficial for the Papuan people, especially in the field of sports.
"We are proud to build a magnificent XX PON venue in Papua for future generations, Papuans will enjoy the results of this development, especially for Papuan athletes. We hope that the athletes can complete them with extraordinary achievements, both at national, Asian and international events. Our main goal is that indigenous Papuans can participate in these events, "said the Governor to Jubi.
The governor asked the public not to be pessimistic about the readiness of Papua Province as the host. The governor also hopes that Papuan athletes can deliver achievements according to the set target, namely winning first place among provinces outside Java Island.
"We are ready 100 percent, even 200 percent. We must not be pessimistic. So we have to prove it with the achievements in PON 2021 and present a winner, because our target is to win first place outside Java, "the Governor stressed.
From a physical point of view and facilities, the PON XX Papua Aquatic venue is classified as an international standard venue. This venue is claimed to be the second grandest after Senayan, Jakarta, which was used at the XVIII Asian Games in 2018.
This aquatic venue is equipped with swimming pool facilities according to the standards of the federation internationale de natation (FINA), which is the parent organization of the international swimming sport. Among them, the Tanding Pool is 25 meters x 51.23 meters with a depth of 3 meters (10 lines), a diving pool with an area of 20 meters x 25 meters with a depth of 5 meters, and a heating pool of 20 meters x 50 meters, a depth of 1 meter and 2 meters. The pond filter also uses a filtration system (water circulation including purification).
The lighting is standard field of play (FOP) with a power of 1200 Lux (Vertical) and 1500 Lux (Horizontal). Also equipped with a match timer (master clock) on the 1st and 2nd floors, a scoreboard and sound system, air conditioning, surveillance cameras (CCTV), and spectator stands with a capacity of 1,706 seats.
Apart from that, this venue is also equipped with parking facilities, landscapes, drainage, and supporting buildings that are adjusted to area boundaries.
Meanwhile, the electricity supply needed by Aquatic has a capacity of 865 KVA (KiloVolt Ampere). The pool circulation also uses advanced technology, using a filtration system and smart control.
"So the water quality is continuously maintained and using a computer system, the water sample is taken and detected if the level is lacking, the computer immediately checks it. So everything is completely automatic circulation. Chemical floring powder, it's used to kill bacteria. All of them also automatically inject themselves, if the levels are deficient, they will be added automatically, ”explained the Papua Aquatic Project Manager, Hapsak Panca Pamungkas.
International Certified
The PON XX Papua Aquatic Venue has officially received recognition from the World Swimming Sports Federation (FINA) by pocketing an international certificate.
The certification process was carried out by the deputy chairman of the Indonesian Swimming Association (PRSI), Sarman Simanjorang together with the Head of the Certification Division Ade Sjam Tjachjadi and the World Swimming Federation (FINA) via streaming, on July 27, 2020. Thus, the world record breaking at this venue will be recorded by FINA.
"Today is a historic day for Papua because we have officially carried out international standard certification for the PON Papua swimming pool. "There are many technical things that are checked, such as the length of the track, width, depth, the materials used, the angle of inclination, water temperature, lighting and stands," said Sarman, after conducting the certification.
With the presence of an international standard aquatic venue in Papua, Sarman hopes to produce swimming athletes who are able to bring the name of the region and Indonesia to the world level. He will also encourage PB PRSI to hold an international class event at the Papua Aquatic venue.
"We, from PRSI, ask that Aquatik can really be used and cared for properly, because there are not many like this in Indonesia. This is so magnificent and so pride. With this pool, we will try to host international events because it has been recognized by FINA. Hopefully this will motivate Papuan children, ”he said.
Meanwhile, Anggoro Putro, Head of the Infrastructure and Settlement Implementation Work Unit Region II of Papua Province, also admitted that he was proud that the Aquatic venue had obtained a world certificate. Although, it was disturbed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Thank God we were able to finish this venue even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The certification process is also done via streaming. So not easy, but extraordinary. We guarantee that every world record can be recorded here immediately, ”said Anggoro.
Technical Delegate Assessment
The Papua Aquatic Venue has also been deemed ready and feasible by the Technical Delegate (TD) to hold a match at the XX PON event, next October.
Based on the results of his monitoring, TD for Water Polo PON XX, Boyke Mulyana, admitted that the venue, which is located next to the Lukas Enembe Main Stadium, has been very satisfying.
"In our opinion, from the water polo sport, this Aquatic venue has no problems, the equipment is also directly procured by the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports. In general, they are available and complete, "said Boyke.
Meanwhile, the TD team for beautiful swimming or artistic swimming, Fitrah Utami Harsono, who also monitored the venue, was also impressed. Fitrah admitted that Papua Aquatic is very capable and fairly complete for the XX PON event, especially since it has been certified internationally by the World Swimming Federation (FINA).
"The advantage of this Papua aquatic venue is that it also has many rooms and is more complete than the aquatic venue at Gelora Bung Karno Jakarta," he admitted.
The Papua Aquatic Venue will compete as many as 53 numbers from the sports of Water Polo, Swimming, Artistic Swimming and Beautiful Jumping.
