Even though the numbers are limited, given the government regulation regarding the prohibition of mass mobilization due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Papuan Youth and Students in the Banten Region continue to hold solidarity actions in support of the Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) program which was again rolled out by the Central Government.
This support for Special Autonomy Volume II is considered to have a wide impact on the lives of the Papuan people, both in terms of health, easy access to education, especially infrastructure.
Frans Yohannes Miokbun as the Papuan Student representative, said that most Papuan students in Banten depend on scholarships and tuition assistance from the local government, this is one form of the regional government's responsibility for improving human resources.
"We call for support to the central government in order to continue the Papua Special Autonomy for the future of students and the land of Papua," said Frans
He emphasized, so far most Papuan students receive scholarships from the allocation of Special Autonomy funds, for this reason the Otsus financing program for students and students should be continued until they get the opportunity to work either in private companies, BUMN, become civil servants, or as members of the TNI / Polri.
"Well ... the empowerment of Human Resources (HR) is still very limited, so Otsus must be continued, and the government should recruit more youths to represent Papua, not only in Papua but throughout Indonesia," he said.
For Frans, one of the things that is urgent is that students must receive special guidance so that they can enter state universities throughout Indonesia. This does not mean that they must be forced into certain tertiary institutions, however, they still use the standards of their respective abilities so that in the future it is more advanced.
In addition, Frans urged the government to provide equal opportunities for younger students in Papua to get scholarships.
"Now, senior Papuan students must try to complete their studies on time, so that the next scholarship is given to students in Papua who have achievements. This is also a motivation to continue studying outside Papua," said Frans.
"The continuation of the Papua Special Autonomy Volume II will lead the young generation of Papua to increase resources and play an active role in Papua's development in the future, so that Papua will be equal to other provinces in terms of education, health and economic equality," he explained.
Frans also hopes that the Regional Government in Banten will be actively involved in paying attention to Papuan students who receive scholarships in Banten.
"Our message today is to all agencies to leaders in Banten so that in the future we Papuan students and students can be considered." he concluded.
