Papuan Judo Targets Four Gold Medals in XX PON




The Papua PON Judo Team targets four gold medals at the XX National Sports Week (PON) event which will take place in Papua in 2021.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Judo Provincial Board (PJSI) Papua, Kombes Pol Ricko Taruna Mauruh said the target of obtaining medals which became the basis for the Papuan contingent as host was only four gold medals. Although he is actually very eager to reach eight gold medals.

Asked about the ambition of other contingents in winning a lot of gold at PON XX in Papua, Ricko was reluctant to comment much, because each region has its own strategy to achieve many gold medals.

"Other regions want to target a lot of gold, go ahead. The point is we also have targets, and the targets I convey are based on the results of the coaches and team officials' exposure in training athletes, "he said.

Ricko, who also serves as the Director of Special Crimes for the Papua Police, said that if the Covid-19 pandemic situation has started to decline and access to foreign countries is free, the Papuan Judo team will undergo TC in Korea in January 2021.

"We will carry out TC in Korea if God wants, while waiting for the PON event. The goal is we TC outside to continuously hone our abilities both physically and abilities, "he explained.

The three floral police officer added that currently there are 19 athletes honing their skills by undergoing training camp training sessions at Padepokan Judo Indonesia in Ciloto, Cianjur Regency, West Java.
