President Joko Widodo reiterated the importance of implementing health protocols in the implementation of the 2020 Regional Head Elections or Pilkada. He regretted that there were still violations that occurred during the Pilkada process.
From field monitoring there are still many protocol violations committed by prospective pairs of candidates. Even from data from the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), there were 243 suspected violations, most of which were related to neglecting health protocols during the registration of candidates for regional head.
There is still a declaration of the candidate pairs for the pilkada who will hold a concert that is attended by thousands and invites a crowd to present the masses. This kind of thing should concern us.
He emphasized that such situations cannot be tolerated. He asked that the 2020 Pilkada should continue, but still apply strict health protocols. Jokowi said the Pilkada could not wait for the pandemic to end.
"Because we don't know, any country does not know when this pandemic will end. Therefore, the election organizers must be carried out in a new way with a new normal," said Jokowi.
