Jayapura Regency prepares fish supply for PON XX

The Jayapura Regency Marine and Fisheries Service has distributed 9,000 cultivated fish seedlings to a number of community groups in Sereh Village, Sentani District.

The aid is part of the Piara Ikan Movement in Jayapura Regency, which was launched in June.

Similar assistance was provided to community groups in 12 other districts, and will continue to the Lake Sentani area. In addition to improving the community's economy, (the fish cultivated) is to supply the needs of the XX National Sports Week (PON).

The fish seeds consist of tilapia, tilapia, and catfish. It is targeted that there are around 100 ponds prepared to develop fish cultivation in a number of villages in Jayapura Regency.

Kampung Sereh is very suitable as a fisheries-based tourism village because it is located at the foot of Mount Cycloops so that the water source is abundant. This natural potential must be managed as best as possible by always maintaining the surrounding environment to keep it beautiful and shady.

The head of Sereh Village, Steven Eluay, said that they had also prepared dozens of ponds to raise fish from the seeds from the Jayapura Regency DKP assistance. The pond was built independently by involving local youth.
