Census Begins September 1, 2020

After the Online Population Census which took place from February 15 to May 29, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will continue the 2020 Population Census with an interview census that will begin on September 1 simultaneously throughout Indonesia.

Head of Mimika BPS, Trisno L Tamananpo explained that this year's population census was different from the population census in 2010 and previous years. Where for 2020 the population census uses population administration data from the Directorate General of Dukcapil as a basic database. This effort is an important step in the realization of one Indonesian population data in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 39 of 2019 towards one Indonesian data.

Even though it is carried out in a pandemic situation, its implementation will still prioritize health protocols. Where before going down to the field these 430 officers will conduct a rapid test first. If there are officers who are reactive, they will not be involved. Likewise, officers will be equipped with masks, face shields and hand sanitizers to prevent Covid-19 transmission.

The questionnaire that will be used is B2 scanner paper and pencil. And the data collection will continue to coordinate with the local government, including the Head of the RT.

He explained that the population census does not aim to produce data according to published individuals, but the resulting data is in aggregate form in the form of numbers, tables and graphs, even though later in the interview, it still uses information on the name of the head and family members.
